The Rapa Nui on Easter Island regard the frigate bird as sacred. Each year they determined who would be the leader by racing to obtain and return with an unbroken frigate bird egg through treacherous terrain. This finely carved representation of the frigate bird was once colorfully painted but the paint is mostly worn away.
The tail has some wear along the outside edge and a small piece is broken off. The neck may have a crack or it may just be a wood knot in that location. Overall it is in good condition for its age.
It has a hole on the underside of the body so it can be hung on a wall.
It is 6” x 17” x 3.5” tall.
