Indulge in a piece of history with this Civil War era photo album filled with tintypes and CDVs. Hand tooled leather cover, brass clasp, milk glass beads, and embossed pages give it an antique feel. Gilt edging adds a touch of elegance. Includes a photo of Tom Thumb and a Civil War soldier.
This book contains 23 tin types and 16 Carte de Vistes. It appears to be a family photo album. There are a pair of young men I believe are brothers that appear in 5 or 6 of the photos. A couple of the photos have handwritten notes stating who the person was and their relation to the original owner of this book.
There is also a photo of a civil war soldier (this photo is faded but still visible). I believe this gentleman is in at least two of the other photos wearing a grand army of the Republic medal.
Additionally there is a CDV of circus performers Tom Thumb (Charles Stratton) with his wife Lavinia with Commodore Nutt and his wife Minnie. On the back is written: compliments of Charles Stratton, Livinia Warren Stratton, G.W.M Nutt, Minnie Warren.
The book measures 4” x 5.25” and is 2” thick.
The book is intact but delicate. There is wear to the exterior commensurate with age. The pages have some discoloration. The binding is intact. The latch is complete and functional.
2 of the tintypes are damaged. You cannot see the image on one of them and the other’s image is lifting on the bottom and top of the picture.
3 of the cdv images are faded but reasonably visible. All other photos are in good antique condition.
