This Native American miniature ant pottery features hand-painted details and is signed on the bottom by the artist with plant in a circle. I was unable to identify that maker’s mark but I believe this pot to be either Acoma or Hopi in origin. The Hopi in particular have ants in their native mythology. According to historical legend humans took shelter with the ant people during a world fire. This piece is a unique representation of traditional Native American pottery, adding a cultural and artisanal touch to your home decor.
This miniature measures 3/4” in diameter at its widest point and just under 1” tall.
There is a chip in the rim but it is otherwise in great vintage condition.
This pot was purchased at the estate of a knowledgeable collector of Native American art in the Chicago area.
